EDUCATING YOUR BUSINESS AND STAFF ON ABORIGINAL AND TORRES STRAIT ISLANDER PEOPLES HISTORY AND CULTURE
WHAT IS CULTURAL COMPETENCY TRAINING?
YARN Australia's Cultural Competency Training and Mentoring teaches people how to respectfully work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and communities. Our workshops guide participants on ways to build cross-cultural relationships, emphasising the need for a deep understanding of effective communication.
YARN's aim is to empower participants with confidence to overcome commonly perceived cultural barriers, and to give each person tools to be able to handle challenging conversations and cultural complexities.
WHO FACILITATES our TRAINING?
YARN Australia Founder Warren Roberts is a proud Thunghutti and Bundjalung man and has extensive experience working in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across Australia. Having worked for NGO's and universities, as well as local, state and federal government.
Warren has been fortunate enough to work alongside esteemed Elders from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Communities which has allowed him to reflect on the importance of respecting cultural protocols.
Warren believes that through the art of understanding culture we can empower all Australian's to find their voice in shaping Australia's future; one we can all be part of, and one we can all be proud of.
HOW DOES THE TRAINING WORK ?
The Cultural Competency Training program is adaptable, flexible and capable of being tailored to your business according to your specific requirements.
The training can take place in your office or any other suitable locations including outdoor spaces (parks, gardens etc.)
The training can be for all of your staff, some of your staff or heads of departments. Typically this ranges from between 15 - 30 people per session.
Our CULTURAL MENTORING
We provide special one-to-one and team leader mentoring for business owners/managers who are looking to deepen their cultural awareness and understanding on how to respectfully engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We ensure that those working with our communities are aware of cultural protocols, giving guidance on respect and best practice.
Warren Roberts is a Bundjalung and Thunghutti man. He is recognised as an outstanding young leader having founded YARN Australia back in 2007. In his work as founder, Warren has worked passionately to build connections between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians, creating safe spaces to explore ideas of storytelling, culture, and conversations of respect, history, and identity.
Our CULTURAL EVENTS
YARN Australia's cultural events celebrate the incredible story of Australia being home to the oldest living culture on earth. We do this by inviting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to share their stories, music, dance, art and food in workplaces and public spaces across the country.
If your organisation is looking to host an event for Reconciliation Week, NAIDOC Week or any other time during the year, our team can help you coordinate and facilitate a unique experience.
